58 PAF – A Balanced Late-50s PAF-Style Voice

The ’58 PAF is the heart of the Olemy PAF range: airy, balanced and musical, with the open top end, woody midrange and vocal bloom that made the best late-50s humbuckers so revered.

The Sonic Profile
  • Airy top end with a natural, sweet woodiness.
  • Complex, 3D midrange rich in harmonic bloom.
  • Defined low end that stays clear and controlled.
Machine-Wound Consistency

Vintage ’50s PAFs weren’t wound by hand, they were wound on industrial machinery. To reflect that style of coil structure our winding patterns are modelled on the Leesona 102 for the screw coil paired with a slug-coil pattern inspired by period production winders.

This creates a mild coil offset between the two coils. The result is an open, balanced pickup with harmonic complexity, touch sensitivity and repeatable consistency from set to set.

Period-Accurate Construction

Every component is chosen around vintage-spec PAF construction:

  • Bobbins & Wire: 42 AWG plain-enamel wire wound onto authentic butyrate bobbins.
  • The Steel: Low-carbon steel screws and slugs to preserve the sweet high end.
  • Baseplates & Covers: Pure nickel-silver, never copper-plated or brass, to preserve clarity and openness.
  • The Core: UK-cast Alnico II magnets for a softer attack, sweet high end and natural musical compression.
  • The Details: Maple spacers and brass bobbin screws complete the assembly.
Engineered Specifications (Measured at 1 kHz)
  • Bridge: 8.0 kΩ | 4.75 H | 4.28 nF
  • Neck: 7.4 kΩ | 4.08 H | 4.93 nF

  • For smooth highs & thicker mids: See the ’59 PAF (No-offset Leesona pattern, ~8.3k)
  • For more immediate bite & punch: See the ’60 PAF (’58 offset pattern with Alnico V)
  • For the legendary “Greeny” blues tone: See the PG PAF (Featuring the iconic, magnetically out-of-phase middle position)
