PG PAF – The Iconic Out-of-Phase Blues Tone

The PG PAF is inspired by the famous out-of-phase humbucker voice associated with Peter Green and later Gary Moore.

A more expressive, characterful PAF-style voice, built for players who want hollow middle-position tones, singing sustain and a highly vocal blues response.

The Sonic Profile

• Sweet and open top end that provides a rich, singing clarity for expressive single-note lines.
• Hollow and vocal middle position with that signature woody, out-of-phase honk.
• Rich, full midrange when used individually, with a hotter, fatter PAF voice that retains clarity and definition.

Machine-Wound Consistency

The PG set is built around the distinctive construction details that give this  pickup its character: a hotter PAF-style wind, a repaired-style neck specification, and a magnet flip for the out-of-phase middle position.

The bridge uses a controlled Leesona-style winding pattern with a mild coil offset for harmonic complexity and a fuller vintage voice.

The neck pickup combines plain-enamel and heavy formvar wire, with the screw coil using a more irregular, hand-guided style pattern to reflect the repaired character of the famous original. Paired with the flipped neck magnet, this creates the hollow, vocal middle position that defines the set.

Vintage-Spec Construction

Every component is chosen around vintage-spec PAF construction:

• The Neck Spec: A mix of 42 AWG plain-enamel and heavy formvar wire wound onto authentic butyrate bobbins.
• The Magnet Flip: UK sandcast Alnico II magnets, featuring reverse polarity in the neck pickup to unlock the out-of-phase middle position.
• The Steel: Low-carbon steel screws and slugs to preserve the sweet high end.
• Baseplates & Covers: Pure nickel-silver, never copper-plated or brass, to preserve clarity and openness.
• The Details: True maple spacers and brass bobbin screws complete the assembly.
