The Out-of-Phase Voice

Expressive. Vocal. Instantly recognisable.

Built for that unmistakable Peter Green / Gary Moore out-of-phase tone.

Why the PG PAF?

Built to capture that famous "Greeny" Les Paul tone.

The PAFs in that guitar were on the hot end of the PAF spectrum leading to a sweeter top end and a more pronounced vocal midrange, perfect for expressive single note lines.

The neck pickup uses a heavy formvar screw coil and a magnet flip, recreating the characteristics of the original repair. The change in wire and winding pattern gives surprising clarity and complexity.

In the middle position, the two pickups interact to produce that unmistakable hollow out-of-phase tone. By adjusting the two volume controls, you can move through a wide range of out-of-phase variations, from thin and cutting to fuller, more vocal tones.
